Superman Pulls
The Superman Pull is an effective exercise that targets strengthening your back, shoulders, and glutes. This exercise is unique because it helps train the muscles needed for good posture and reduces the risk of back pain.
Execution
-
1
Lie face down on a mat with your arms extended in front of you and your legs straight behind you.
-
2
Engage your core and simultaneously lift your arms, chest, and legs off the ground. Your body now forms a slight arch, similar to Superman's flying position.
-
3
Now pull your elbows toward you, as if pulling a barbell toward your chest, while bringing your shoulder blades together.
-
4
Extend your arms again and repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
The Superman Pull helps improve your posture by strengthening your back and shoulder muscles. It also reduces the risk of back pain by strengthening your lower back and improves overall functional strength, which is useful for daily activities and other sports.
Common Mistakes
- ! Lifting too high: Overdoing the lift can lead to unnecessary strain on your lower back. It is important to find a comfortable height that you can maintain without pain.
- ! Straining the neck: Keep your neck in a neutral position by directing your gaze toward the floor, not forward.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily trains the erector spinae (the muscles along your spine), the upper and middle trapezius (upper back), the deltoids (shoulders), and the gluteus maximus (glutes).
Possible Alternatives
If the Superman Pull is too challenging, you can start with the basic Superman exercise by lifting only your arms and legs without the pull movement. For an additional challenge, you can add weights to your hands or ankles.
