Execution

  1. 1
Lie flat on your stomach on a comfortable surface, with your arms extended in front of you.
  2. 2
Engage your abdominal muscles to protect your spine and slowly lift your chest and arms off the ground. Keep your neck aligned with your spine.
  3. 3
Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly lower your chest and arms back to the starting position.
  4. 4
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

In addition to strengthening the aforementioned muscle groups, this exercise also helps improve your posture and may reduce the risk of shoulder injuries by strengthening the muscles around your shoulder blades. It is also a great exercise for people who sit a lot, as it helps counteract the negative effects of prolonged sitting.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lifting your head too high, which can place pressure on your neck.
  • ! Failing to engage your abdominal muscles, which can lead to unnecessary tension in your lower back.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, giving you less control and reducing the effectiveness of the exercise.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the pectoralis major, the upper-back muscles (trapezius and rhomboids), and the backs of your shoulders (posterior deltoids).

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the exercise, consider adding weights to your hands or using a resistance band for extra resistance. For beginners, reducing the range of motion or performing the exercise without lifting the arms can be a good way to start.
