Dumbbell Renegade Row
The Dumbbell Renegade Row is a dynamic compound exercise that improves both your strength and stability. This exercise combines a plank with a rowing movement, intensively training both your core and upper body.
Execution
-
1
Place two dumbbells on the floor, approximately shoulder-width apart. Get into a plank position with your hands on the dumbbells.
-
2
Ensure that your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels, with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart for extra stability.
-
3
Engage your core and keep your hips as still as possible.
-
4
Pull one dumbbell upward toward your hip while keeping your elbow close to your body. Ensure that your shoulder blades move toward each other.
-
5
Lower the dumbbell in a controlled manner and repeat the movement with the other arm.
Benefits
- Improves and strengthens core stability.
- Increases strength in the upper back and arms.
- Helps improve overall body balance and coordination.
Common Mistakes
- ! Rotating the hips while rowing; keep your hips as stable as possible.
- ! Lowering the weights too quickly; the movement should be controlled.
- ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing your form to break down; start with lighter weights to master the technique.
Targeted Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the back muscles, including the latissimus dorsi and rhomboids. The biceps, shoulders, and entire core are also trained.
Possible Alternatives
- Use a resistance band instead of dumbbells for less impact on the joints.
- Perform the exercise on your knees instead of your toes to reduce the intensity.
- Increase the intensity by adding a push-up between the rowing movements.
