Execution

  1. 1
Make sure you have a pair of dumbbells and stand with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Slightly bend your knees and hinge forward at your hips, keeping your back straight.
  3. 3
Let your arms hang straight down with the dumbbells.
  4. 4
Pull the dumbbells up toward your sides, keeping your elbows moving along your body rather than pointing outward.
  5. 5
Squeeze your shoulder blades together briefly at the top, then slowly lower the weights again.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and increases the size of the back muscles.
  • Improves posture and reduces back pain.
  • Helps improve grip strength.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Rounded back: Make sure your back remains straight throughout the exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Lowering the weights too quickly: Lower the dumbbells in a controlled manner to maintain maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Elbows too far out: Keep your elbows close to your body to target the correct muscles.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, but the trapezius, rhomboids, and rear deltoids are also trained. Your biceps and forearm muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Increase the intensity by using heavier weights.
  • Use a barbell instead of dumbbells for variety.
  • Add a wrist rotation at the top of the movement to train the biceps more intensely.
