Assisted Pull-Up Close Grip

The Assisted Pull-Up Close Grip is a fantastic exercise for strengthening your upper body, particularly if you are not yet strong enough to perform a traditional pull-up. This variation provides support, allowing you to gradually build strength in your arms and back.

Execution

  1. 1
Begin by adjusting the machine or attaching a resistance band to a pull-up bar. Choose a weight or band that provides enough assistance while still challenging you.
  2. 2
Stand on the machine platform or place your knees in the resistance band.
  3. 3
Grip the handles or bar with a close grip, keeping your hands no wider than shoulder-width apart.
  4. 4
Lower yourself slowly until your arms are fully extended.
  5. 5
Pull yourself up by drawing your elbows down and back until your chin is above the bar.
  6. 6
Lower yourself slowly again and repeat.

Benefits

  • Improves upper-body strength and muscle mass.
  • Provides adjustable resistance, making it suitable for all fitness levels.
  • Helps develop proper technique for unassisted pull-ups.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving up or down too quickly: Focus on a controlled movement to get the most out of the exercise.
  • ! Not pulling the shoulders down and back: This reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and can lead to injuries.
  • ! Using too much weight: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, biceps, and, to a lesser extent, the trapezius and forearm muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • Unassisted close-grip pull-up: Once you are strong enough, try the exercise without assistance.
  • Close-grip lat pulldown: A good alternative exercise for training the same muscle groups with a machine.
  • Assisted Pull-Up Wide Grip: A variation that places more emphasis on the outer back muscles.
