Stability Ball Rolls
Stability Ball Rolls is an effective exercise that focuses on strengthening your core and improving your balance. By using a stability ball, you challenge your body to find stability during the movement, which leads to a strong and functional core.
Execution
-
1
Begin in a plank position with your feet on a stability ball and your hands directly under your shoulders on the floor.
-
2
Engage your abdominal muscles and keep your back straight.
-
3
Slowly roll the ball toward you by pulling your knees toward your chest while pushing your hips upward.
-
4
Return to the starting position by straightening your legs and rolling the ball away.
-
5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves whole-body stability and balance.
- Strengthens the core, which may lead to better posture and less back pain.
- Increases coordination through the use of an unstable surface.
Common Mistakes
- ! Not engaging the abdominal muscles, which may lead to a sagging back.
- ! Performing the movement too quickly, resulting in a loss of control.
- ! Placing too much stress on the shoulders by shrugging them toward the ears.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the abdominal muscles), the obliques (side muscles), and the erector spinae (back muscles), and to a lesser extent the shoulders and hip flexors.
Possible Alternatives
- For beginners: Reduce the range of motion by pulling the knees less far toward the chest.
- For advanced exercisers: Add a push-up between each roll for extra intensity.
- If you do not have a stability ball, you can use a TRX strap or a similar tool to support your feet during the rolling movement.
