Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a side plank position, supporting yourself on your forearm with your feet stacked or with one foot in front of the other for greater stability.
  2. 2
Ensure that your body forms a straight line from your head to your feet.
  3. 3
Engage your core and lift your hips off the floor until your body forms a straight line again.
  4. 4
Slowly lower your hips without touching the floor, then lift them again.
  5. 5
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions before switching sides.

Benefits

  • Improves core stability and strength.
  • Helps develop better balance and coordination.
  • Strengthens multiple muscle groups simultaneously.
  • May help reduce the risk of back pain through a stronger core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Allowing the hips to drop, preventing the core from being properly activated.
  • ! Failing to keep the neck aligned with the rest of the body, which can lead to tension.
  • ! Performing the movements too quickly, resulting in a loss of control.

Targeted Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the obliques, rectus abdominis, gluteus medius and minimus, and adductors. The shoulders and forearms are also trained through the stabilization required to maintain the position.

Possible Alternatives

If the Side Plank With Hip Lift is too challenging, you can start with a regular side plank to build strength. For an additional challenge, you can lift one leg during the hip lift or place a resistance band around your thighs for extra resistance.
