Execution

  1. 1
Find a comfortable spot on the floor and sit with your legs extended straight out in front of you.
  2. 2
Lean back slightly and support yourself on your forearms, making sure to keep your back straight.
  3. 3
Lift your legs slightly off the floor and begin moving them up and down in a fluttering motion, as if you were swimming in water.
  4. 4
Keep your core tight throughout the entire exercise to protect your back.
  5. 5
Start with 30 seconds and build up as you get stronger.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the core and improves stability.
  • Increases hip flexibility and mobility.
  • Helps burn calories and may contribute to fat loss.
  • Improves coordination and lower-body endurance.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than speed.
  • ! Letting the back sag: Keep your back straight and your core tight to prevent injury.
  • ! Lifting the legs too high: This can shift the emphasis away from the lower abdominals.

Primary Muscles

Seated Flutter Kicks primarily target the lower abdominals and hip flexors. The quadriceps and lower back are also lightly engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the exercise is too intense, first try fluttering one leg at a time.
  • For an extra challenge, try the flutter kicks while supporting yourself on your hands instead of your forearms.
  • Use a resistance band around your ankles for additional resistance.
