Plank Reach Through
The Plank Reach Through is a dynamic variation of the traditional plank that not only improves core stability but also challenges coordination and balance. By adding a reaching and threading motion, you activate a broader range of muscle groups.
Execution
-
1
Begin in a standard plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
-
2
Stabilize your torso and keep your hips as still as possible.
-
3
Reach your right hand under your body toward the left side as if you were trying to grab something.
-
4
Return to the starting position and repeat the movement with your left hand.
-
5
Alternate between right and left for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves core stability and strength.
- Increases coordination and balance.
- Helps develop better posture.
- Strengthens multiple muscle groups simultaneously.
Common Mistakes
- ! Holding the hips too high or too low, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and can lead to back pain.
- ! Performing the movements too quickly, causing you to lose control and focus on the core.
- ! Not breathing during the exercise, which can lead to unnecessary tension and fatigue.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the core muscles, including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and the deeper transversus abdominis. The shoulders, chest, and muscles around the shoulder blades are also trained.
Possible Alternatives
- For a less intense variation, perform the exercise on your knees instead of your toes.
- To increase the intensity, add a resistance band around your wrists or ankles.
- Try the side plank reach through for a variation that places more emphasis on the obliques.
