Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a standard plank position with your hands directly beneath your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
  2. 2
Engage your abdominal muscles and bring your right knee toward your left elbow while keeping your hips as low as possible.
  3. 3
Return to the starting position and repeat the movement with your left knee toward your right elbow.
  4. 4
Alternate between both sides for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

The Plank Cross Knee Drive not only strengthens your core but also improves your posture and may help reduce back pain. The dynamic movement also raises your heart rate, contributing to fat burning.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Hips too high or too low: Make sure your body forms a straight line to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Moving too quickly: Perform the movement in a controlled manner to properly activate the muscles.
  • ! Not rotating fully: Make sure your knee comes as close as possible to your elbow for maximum rotation and effect.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (your “six-pack” muscles), the obliques, and the transversus abdominis (the deepest abdominal muscle). It also engages the shoulders, chest, and the muscles around your hips and thighs.

Possible Alternatives

  • For beginners: Perform the exercise while supporting yourself on your knees instead of your toes.
  • To increase the intensity: Add a push-up between each knee drive.
  • As a variation: Try the Plank Cross Knee Drive on an unstable surface such as a BOSU ball to increase the difficulty.
