Execution

  1. 1
Sit on the edge of your couch and lean back slightly. Hold the edges of the couch for stability.
  2. 2
Lift your knees toward your chest while tensing your abdominal muscles.
  3. 3
Slowly lower your legs again, making sure your feet do not touch the floor.
  4. 4
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the core without requiring equipment.
  • Helps improve balance and stability.
  • Can be performed anywhere, making it ideal for home or travel.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: use a controlled movement to train the muscles effectively.
  • ! Not fully engaging the abdominal muscles: focus on keeping your core engaged throughout the entire exercise.
  • ! Arching the back too much: keep your back as straight as possible to prevent injuries.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the “six-pack” muscles) and the obliques (side abdominal muscles). The hip flexors are also trained lightly.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can hold a weight against your chest while performing the exercise.
  • For a lighter variation, you can lift one leg at a time instead of both legs together.
  • If you have access to a fitness ball, try performing the exercise with your feet on the ball for additional instability and intensity.
