Lie on your back on a mat, with your hands under your buttocks for support.
  2. 2
Lift your head and shoulders slightly off the floor to activate your abdominal muscles.
  3. 3
Extend your legs and lift them approximately 15 cm off the floor.
  4. 4
Now alternately lift your left and right leg higher without letting your other leg touch the floor.
  5. 5
Keep your abdominal muscles continuously engaged and your lower back pressed against the floor.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the core and improves torso stability.
  • Helps develop a tighter, more defined abdomen.
  • Improves posture by strengthening the abdominal and back muscles.
  • May help reduce lower back pain by strengthening the core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Failing to keep the abdominal muscles engaged throughout the exercise, which can lead to strain on the lower back.
  • ! Moving the legs too quickly, resulting in loss of control and reduced exercise effectiveness.
  • ! Lifting the legs too high, causing the lower back to come off the floor.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis and the obliques. The hip flexors and, to a lesser extent, the lower back muscles are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can add ankle weights or use a resistance band.
  • Beginners can simplify the exercise by keeping one leg resting on the floor while lifting the other leg.
  • Another variation is to perform the exercise with bent knees to reduce pressure on the lower back.
