Brace is a fat fit boss

Geschreven door Nathan Albers
Geschatte leestijd: 3 minuten After watching the first two episodes of Vet Fit, I have a renewed appreciation for Brace. If only because it’s so nice to see when someone’s fitness flame is ignited.

Brace in Vet Fit

The last time I saw a celebrity take off his shirt on TV to show progress was when Filemon joined De Wereld Draait Door. Filemon played a few months as a bodybuilder and ‘naturally’ included steroids. In his case, the result was a body comparable to the average 15-year-old. Not exactly the best promotion for bodybuilding. Filemon’s goal was to be ripped for once and to appear in a fitness magazine. Something others with more talent and effort work for years. But fortunately for Filemon, the bar for celebrities is much lower. So, I practically tripped over my own feet in a sprint to my Macbook to write off my irritation in an article. How different it was when another celebrity proudly took off his shirt after his first introduction to fitness this week. Singer Brace is participating in the program Vet Fit. Unlike Filemon, his goal is not to appear once as a fitness model on the cover of a magazine. Brace just wants to get healthier. To ensure that his son also has a vital and healthy father in the future.

‘Obracitas’

Last week in the first episode, we could see his fitness test and the results. It was a pretty harsh eye-opener for most participants, including René Froger and the O’g3n3 sisters. For Brace, the shock may have been even greater. He knew he was overweight, but probably thought of it a bit too lightly (no pun intended). His BMI was 34, falling into the category of ‘severe overweight’. His so-called ‘heart age’ estimated him to be 11 years older than his 31 years. “Are you serious?” was his first reaction. “This is not fair, man.” With ‘a bit confronting’ he expressed the situation even mildly. He needed some time to recover.

Confronting or Motivating?

“You say confronting, I say motivating,” said presenter Irene Moors. It’s still early, but so far Brace seems to take it mainly as motivation. That’s nice, because it can also be quite depressing if you have the highest BMI in the group (closely followed by Froger). Discouraging even. A day later, the program makers visit Brace at home. There he tells one of his friends that he has been made a fool of on TV. “I feel fat, I feel obese, I feel a bit sorry for myself.” He feels broken and really doesn’t feel like training. You would almost be afraid that he has given up already, even before he has actually started. So, his friends put him to work and let him wake up with push-ups. Then Brace says he’s a virgin. He has a body that has never really moved, so he has no idea what a training session should look like in terms of duration and intensity.

Broscience & no bitching

Friend and rapper Raskulz takes him to the gym. There it can be seen that we are dealing with two ‘bradas’ here. No complaints about sensitivities. “Come here, whale” are the words used to get Brace on a bench press. Fat shaming is not in the rappers’ dictionary. The training doesn’t seem particularly well planned, but Brace struggles through it. The familiar images of a couch potato who starts moving again for the first time in a long time. Nothing special there. What I found heartwarming, however, were the following images that showed that the fitness flame had been ignited. When Irene visited Brace’s home, she found an enthusiastic and motivated Brace. He had converted a room into a ‘gym’, complete with the accompanying smell of sweat. Proudly, he took off his shirt to show Irene his gains. So cute. Great job, Brace, another 90 days to go. So keep up that beginner’s enthusiasm. From obese to oh beast.
