Blown over from America, now also hot in the Netherlands: the Dad Bod. The internet is full of it by now, and you couldn’t avoid it on TV either, the Dad Bod is the summer look for men. At least if it’s up to the creator, Mackenzie Pearson. She first wrote about the Dad Bod on March 30, and her blog post has since gone viral, even being written about in the Netherlands. But what is the dad bod and why is this becoming the trend among men?
The dad bod, abbreviation for dad body translated, the dad figure, is the male body type where no six-pack is visible but where a beer belly is located around the abdomen. It shouldn’t be an excessive beer belly, but the shapes of the washboard are completely invisible. It is the body type that is currently represented by a number of well-known Hollywood stars, such as Leonardo di Caprio and Seth Rogen. Mackenzie describes it as follows:
It’s not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard abs, either

Why a dad bod?
Mackenzie describes several advantages of having a partner with a dad bod. She says that women in general are insecure enough already and that someone with a trained body would not contribute positively to this. She also argues that women like to be the most beautiful.
A man who steals all the attention does not fit into that picture.
In addition to appearance, there are other benefits according to supporters. Namely, that a dad bod enjoys having a glass of wine or beer and does not obsessively count his calories in Myfitnesspal or get completely stressed out when eating a cheat meal.
Finally, she states: you know what you are getting. In fact, when you bring in a dad bod, you know what figure your partner will ultimately develop, so you know what you’re getting into.
Do women want a dad bod
Recently, Editie NL devoted an item to this subject, questioning female passers-by. The majority of those questioned admitted to wanting a man without a six-pack. Characteristics such as big arms were mentioned as attractive.
But to substantiate this with figures, a survey was conducted on the Editie NL website and what do the figures show? A whopping 63% of respondents indicated they would choose a dad bod.
Is the dad bod healthy?
Let’s start by saying that you should always strive for the body that makes you happy. But a higher body fat percentage, which is a requirement for this figure, can bring some health risks. Furthermore, lack of exercise can also have negative consequences for overall health. So if you don’t want a Hot Bod, but a Dad Bod, realize that this can have some drawbacks for your health.
