Execution

  1. 1
Lie face down on an exercise mat, extend your legs, and place your hands behind your head or cross them over your chest.
  2. 2
Engage your glute and back muscles and lift your upper body off the floor. Keep your neck aligned with your spine.
  3. 3
Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly lower yourself back to the starting position.
  4. 4
Repeat the exercise for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the lower back and improves posture.
  • May help reduce back pain.
  • Improves core stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a controlled movement to train the muscles effectively.
  • ! Raising yourself too high: This can lead to overloading the lower back. It is important to stay within a comfortable range.
  • ! Straining the neck: Keep your neck in a neutral position to prevent tension.

Targeted Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the erector spinae, the muscle group that runs along your spine. The glutes and hamstrings are also trained to a lesser extent.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can place a weight plate on your upper back.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise while lying on an exercise ball. This reduces the resistance and is gentler on your back.
