Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a flat surface, with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. 2
Hold the resistance band cable with both hands and extend your arms straight above your chest. Make sure the band is behind you so that it is under tension.
  3. 3
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower your arms over your head toward the floor while feeling the resistance of the band.
  4. 4
Make sure your arms remain slightly bent throughout the movement.
  5. 5
Exhale and bring your arms back to the starting position while contracting the muscles in your chest, back, and arms.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves upper-body strength and flexibility.
  • Helps build a strong and defined chest and back.
  • Improves shoulder-joint stability.
  • May help prevent injuries by strengthening supporting muscle groups.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a slow, controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Too much tension on the band: Start with light resistance and gradually increase it to prevent injuries.
  • ! Bending or extending the arms too much: Keep a slight bend in the elbows to maintain tension on the intended muscles.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, and triceps. The deltoids and the muscles around the rib cage, the serratus anterior, are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a heavier resistance band or fold the band in half for additional resistance.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise seated, which places less tension on the lower back.
  • Alternatively, you can use dumbbells instead of a resistance band for a different form of resistance.
