The Cable Bent-Over Row is a powerful exercise that targets the development of your back muscles. What makes this exercise unique is that using the cable machine provides constant tension on the muscles, leading to more effective muscle growth and strength development.

Execution

  1. 1
Set the cable machine to the lowest position and attach a straight bar or a V-handle.
  2. 2
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, slightly bend your knees, and hinge forward from your hips. Keep your back straight.
  3. 3
Grip the bar or handle with both hands, using an overhand or underhand grip, depending on your preference.
  4. 4
Pull the bar toward your abdomen while keeping your elbows close to your body and drawing your shoulder blades together.
  5. 5
Slowly and controllably return the bar to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Improves the strength and size of the back muscles.
  • Helps improve posture by strengthening the back and shoulders.
  • Due to the constant tension from the cable, the muscles are stimulated more effectively than with free weights.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a controlled movement to activate the muscles maximally.
  • ! Using too much weight: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries.
  • ! Failing to keep your back straight: This can place unnecessary strain on the lower back.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, but also trains the trapezius, rear deltoids, and biceps.

Possible Alternatives

  • Single-Arm Cable Row: For more isolated training of each side of the back.
  • Standing Cable Row: For those who want to reduce strain on the lower back.
  • Resistance Band Bent-Over Row: A good alternative if you do not have access to a cable machine.
