Benefits

The weighted medicine ball Russian twist not only strengthens your core but also improves your posture and stability. Adding weight increases the intensity, causing you to burn more calories and stimulating your metabolism. In addition, this exercise may help improve sports performance through a stronger and more flexible core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than the speed. Performing the exercise more slowly creates more tension in the muscles.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back is straight throughout the exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Using too much weight: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form and prevent overloading the muscles.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the oblique muscles, but it also engages the entire core, including the deep abdominal muscles and lower back. The shoulders and arms are also lightly trained by holding and moving the medicine ball.

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the exercise, you can vary the weight of the ball or perform the exercise without weight. For an additional challenge, you can lift your feet higher off the floor or use a heavier ball. Another variation is performing the Russian twist on an exercise ball to further challenge stability.
