Weighted Crunch

  • Weighted Crunch
  • Weighted Crunch

Introduction: The Weighted Crunch is an effective abdominal exercise that helps build strength and definition in your core. Adding weight increases the intensity, leading to better results than a standard crunch.

Execution: Begin by choosing a suitable weight, such as a weight plate or a medicine ball. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Hold the weight with both hands against your chest or above your chest. Brace your abdominal muscles and lift your shoulders off the floor toward your knees while holding the weight securely. Keep your lower back in contact with the floor. Slowly lower yourself back to the starting position.

Primary Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis, the muscle responsible for the “six-pack” effect, while also engaging the obliques.

Benefits: In addition to strengthening your core, this exercise also helps improve your posture and may reduce back pain by developing a stronger and more balanced torso.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is using momentum instead of muscle strength to rise. Make sure your movement is controlled. Do not pull on your neck; keep your hands at your chest or lightly at the sides of your head without pulling.

Possible Alternatives: If the Weighted Crunch is too intense, you can start with a regular crunch without weight. For more of a challenge, you can change the position of the weight by holding it overhead during the exercise, or use a heavier weight.
