Vertical Legs Crunches
The Vertical Legs Crunch is an effective abdominal exercise that focuses on strengthening and toning your core. This variation of the traditional crunch adds an extra challenge by keeping your legs vertical, providing a more intense workout for the abdominal muscles.
Execution
-
1
Lie on your back on a comfortable surface, with your hands behind your head or crossed over your chest.
-
2
Raise your legs and hold them straight up so that they form a 90-degree angle with your body.
-
3
Exhale and crunch up by lifting your shoulders off the floor. Make sure your lower back remains on the floor.
-
4
Hold this position briefly, then inhale as you slowly return to the starting position.
-
5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Strengthens and tones the core muscles.
- Improved posture through a stronger abdominal wall.
- Increased stability and balance in daily life and during other sports.
Common Mistakes
- ! Performing the exercise too quickly: Take your time with each repetition to achieve maximum muscle activation.
- ! Crunching too far: It is not necessary to lift your entire back off the floor, as this can lead to back pain.
- ! Tension in the neck: Keep your neck relaxed by slightly tilting your chin toward your chest.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the “six-pack” muscles) and the obliques (the side abdominal muscles).
Possible Alternatives
- To increase the intensity, you can hold a weight on your chest.
- For lower intensity, keep one leg extended at a time and alternate.
- Try the Bicycle Crunch for variation and to place more emphasis on the obliques.
