Benefits

  • Strengthens the core and improves stability.
  • Increases flexibility and mobility in the hips.
  • Helps reduce the risk of back pain by strengthening the lower back.
  • Improves coordination and balance.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Failing to keep the core tight, which can lead to unnecessary strain on the lower back.
  • ! Performing the movements too quickly, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Keeping the legs too high, which reduces the intensity of the exercise.

Primary Muscles

The Scissors exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the abdominal muscles) and the obliques (side muscles). The hip flexors and, to a lesser extent, the lower back muscles are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can add ankle weights.
  • For beginners, it may be helpful to keep one leg resting on the floor and perform the movement with one leg at a time.
  • Use a fitness ball between your feet for additional resistance and a coordination challenge.
