Russian Twists
The Russian Twist is an effective exercise for strengthening your core and improving your rotational ability. This exercise not only helps build muscle strength but also improves your balance and coordination.
Execution
-
1
Sit on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
-
2
Lean back slightly until your torso forms an angle of approximately 45 degrees with the floor.
-
3
Hold your hands in front of your chest, optionally gripping a weight for additional resistance.
-
4
Rotate your torso to the right and touch the floor beside you with your hands or the weight.
-
5
Then rotate to the left and do the same.
-
6
Continue alternating this movement for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Strengthens the core muscles.
- Improves rotation in the spine.
- Increases the body's stability and balance.
Common Mistakes
- ! Rotating too quickly: Use a controlled movement to maximize effectiveness and prevent injuries.
- ! Leaning too far back: This can put pressure on the lower back. Maintain a comfortable angle.
- ! Not breathing: Exhale with each rotation to engage the core more effectively.
Main Muscles
The Russian Twist primarily targets the abdominal muscles, including the obliques. The lower back and hips are also trained to some extent.
Possible Alternatives
- Add weights to increase the intensity.
- Perform the exercise with your feet raised to increase the difficulty.
- Use a medicine ball instead of a weight for variation.
