Plank T Raise
The Plank T Raise is a dynamic core-strengthening exercise that builds stability and strength in your shoulders, chest, and abdominal muscles. It is a variation of the traditional plank that adds a rotation element, making it a challenging and effective workout.
Instructions:
- Begin in a standard plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
- Shift your weight onto your left hand and rotate your body open to the right while lifting your right arm toward the ceiling. Your body now forms a 'T'.
- Keep your hips high and your core engaged to form a straight line with your body.
- Hold this position for a few seconds, then return to the starting position.
- Repeat the movement on the other side by shifting your weight onto your right hand and lifting your left arm upward.
- Alternate sides for the desired number of repetitions.
Primary Muscles:
- Core muscles, including the rectus abdominis and obliques
- Shoulder muscles, especially the deltoids
- Chest muscles
- Gluteus muscles
Benefits:
- Improves core stability and strength
- Strengthens multiple muscle groups simultaneously
- Helps improve balance and coordination
- May help reduce the risk of back problems through a stronger core
Common Mistakes:
- Allowing the hips to drop, which leads to a less effective workout and possible back problems
- Failing to keep the neck aligned with the spine
- Moving through the exercise too quickly, resulting in a loss of control
Possible Alternatives:
- For beginners: Perform the exercise with your knees on the ground to reduce the intensity.
- To increase the intensity: Add a dumbbell to the hand you lift or increase the duration of the exercise.
- If you experience wrist discomfort, perform the exercise on your forearms instead of your hands.
