Introduction:

The Plank Ski Jump is a dynamic exercise that improves core stability and explosive strength. It combines the traditional plank with a lateral “ski jump” movement, providing a challenging cardiovascular component.

Instructions:

  1. Begin in a standard plank position with your hands under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
  2. Jump both feet to the right at the same time while keeping your core engaged and your hips stable.
  3. Immediately jump back to the center and then to the left, as if jumping over an imaginary line beneath your hips.
  4. Continue alternating jumps to the right and left for the desired time or number of repetitions.

Primary Muscles:

  • Rectus abdominis (abdominal muscles)
  • Obliques (side abdominal muscles)
  • Deltoids (shoulder muscles)
  • Quadriceps (front thigh muscles)
  • Gluteus maximus (gluteal muscles)

Benefits:

This exercise not only strengthens your core but also improves your coordination and agility. It is an excellent addition to any HIIT routine or core workout because it helps burn calories and build muscular endurance.

Common Mistakes:

  • Allowing your hips to drop or lifting them too high during the jumps.
  • Putting too much pressure on your shoulders by not engaging your core.
  • Jumping too quickly and losing control of the movement.

Possible Alternatives:

  • For beginners: Make the jumps smaller or step sideways instead of jumping.
  • To increase the intensity: Add a resistance band around your ankles or wear ankle weights.
  • If you experience wrist discomfort: Perform the exercise on your forearms instead of your hands.
