Motion Side Plank

  • Motion Side Plank
  • Motion Side Plank

Introduction: The Motion Side Plank is a dynamic variation of the traditional side plank that improves not only your core stability but also your flexibility and balance. This exercise adds a movement element to the standard side plank, making it a challenging and effective workout for your oblique muscles.

Execution: Begin in a standard side plank position, supported by your forearm and the side of your foot. Ensure that your body forms a straight line from your head to your feet. Raise your top arm straight up so that it is also aligned with your body. Now move your top arm and leg toward each other, trying to touch your knee and elbow. Return to the starting position and repeat for the desired number of repetitions. Then switch sides.

Muscles Worked: This exercise primarily targets the obliques, but it also trains the entire core, including the deep abdominal muscles and back muscles. The shoulders and hips are also engaged.

Benefits: The Motion Side Plank helps strengthen the core and improve overall stability. The dynamic element of the movement increases the intensity, leading to higher calorie expenditure and improved muscular endurance.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is allowing the hips to sag, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and can lead to back problems. Ensure that your body remains in a straight line throughout the exercise. Also avoid performing the movements hastily; focus on controlled execution to achieve maximum results.

Possible Alternatives: To lower the intensity, you can perform the movement without moving your arm and leg, simply holding the side plank position. For higher intensity, you can use a resistance band around your thighs or hold a small weight in your top hand.
