Modified Commando Plank

  • Modified Commando Plank
  • Modified Commando Plank

Introduction:
The Modified Commando Plank is a dynamic exercise that improves core stability and strength. It is a variation of the traditional plank in which you alternate between your forearms and hands. This movement adds an extra challenge to the exercise and activates a broader range of muscles.

Instructions:
1. Begin in a standard plank position with your forearms on the ground and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
2. Make sure your elbows are positioned directly under your shoulders and your hands are flat on the ground.
3. Brace your abdominal muscles and push yourself up with one hand, followed by the other, until you are in a push-up position.
4. Return to the starting position by lowering one forearm first, followed by the other.
5. Alternate which arm you raise and lower first with each repetition.

Primary Muscles:
This exercise targets the core muscles, including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and transversus abdominis. The shoulders, chest, and triceps are also engaged during the movement.

Benefits:
The Modified Commando Plank helps build a strong core, which is essential for good posture and preventing back pain. It also improves shoulder stability and increases overall muscular endurance.

Common Mistakes:
- Allowing your hips to drop or pushing them upward, which prevents the core from being properly activated.
- Switching positions too quickly, which can lead to poor form and a less effective workout.
- Not maintaining enough tension in your abdominal muscles throughout the exercise.

Possible Alternatives:
If the Modified Commando Plank is too challenging, you can start with a standard plank or a plank on your knees. To increase the intensity, try performing the movement more slowly or add a leg lift with each switch.
