Execution

  1. 1
Begin by kneeling and attaching the resistance band above your head to a fixed point.
  2. 2
Grip the band with both hands, with your hands next to each other and your arms fully extended.
  3. 3
Lean slightly forward from your hips and brace your abdominal muscles.
  4. 4
Perform a crunch by bringing your upper body down and forward while strongly contracting your abdominal muscles.
  5. 5
Slowly return to the starting position and repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the abdominal muscles.
  • Improves posture through a stronger core.
  • May help reduce back pain by strengthening the lower back.
  • Increases functional strength that is useful in daily life and other sports.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a controlled movement to activate the muscles maximally.
  • ! Not fully extending: Make sure to return fully to the starting position with each repetition.
  • ! Straining the neck: Keep your neck in a neutral position by directing your gaze at a fixed point in front of you.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the “six-pack” muscles) and the obliques (side abdominal muscles). The muscles of the lower back and hips are also lightly engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a heavier resistance band.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise without a resistance band, using only your body weight.
  • Standing crunches with a resistance band are a good alternative if kneeling is uncomfortable.
