Elbow Up Down Plank

  • Elbow Up Down Plank

Introduction: The Elbow Up Down Plank is a dynamic variation of the traditional plank that not only improves your core stability but also increases the strength and endurance of your arms and shoulders. This exercise is ideal for building a strong torso and improving your overall body balance.

Execution: Start in a standard plank position with your arms extended and your hands directly under your shoulders. Make sure your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels. Engage your abdominal muscles. Then move down by first placing your right elbow where your hand was, followed by your left elbow. You are now in an elbow plank. Then return to the extended position by lifting your right hand back up, followed by your left hand. Repeat this movement, alternating which arm you move first.

Targeted Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the abdominal muscles, shoulders, chest, and triceps. Your back muscles are also engaged to keep your body stable during the movement.

Benefits: The Elbow Up Down Plank helps strengthen the core, which is essential for good posture and preventing back pain. It also improves arm strength and flexibility in the shoulder joints.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is allowing your hips to sag, which leads to unnecessary strain on your lower back. Make sure your body always forms a straight line. Also avoid moving your head up and down; keep your neck neutral.

Possible Alternatives: To increase the intensity, you can lift one leg during the exercise. For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by performing the plank on the knees instead of the toes.
