Execution

  1. 1
Begin by sitting on the floor with your legs extended in front of you and your back at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the floor.

Hold a dumbbell with both hands in front of your chest, with your arms slightly bent.
  3. 3

  4. 4
Rotate your torso to the right and bring the dumbbell to the floor beside you. Make sure the movement comes from your waist, not your arms.

  6. 6
Complete the desired number of repetitions, maintaining a controlled movement throughout the exercise.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the core muscles.
  • Improved balance and stability.
  • Increases the flexibility and mobility of the spine.
  • May help reduce back pain by strengthening the core and lower back.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on quality over quantity. A slower, controlled movement is more effective.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back remains in a neutral position throughout the exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Using a dumbbell that is too heavy: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form and gradually work your way up.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the core muscles, including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and, to a lesser extent, the lower back muscles. The hip flexors and the stabilizing muscles around the shoulders and arms are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • For beginners: Perform the exercise without a dumbbell or with a lighter weight.
  • To increase the intensity: Increase the dumbbell weight or add a leg raise with each twist.
  • Alternative exercise: Traditional Russian Twist with bent knees for those who find straight legs too challenging.
