Benefits

  • Improves core stability.
  • Helps prevent lower back pain.
  • Improves coordination and balance.
  • Can be performed anywhere without equipment.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Failing to keep the core actively engaged, which can lead to an arched back.
  • ! Performing the movements too quickly, resulting in a loss of control.
  • ! Extending the arm or leg too far, causing the lower back to lift off the floor.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the core muscles, including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and transversus abdominis. The hip flexors, and to a lesser extent the shoulders and arms, are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a light dumbbell or resistance band in your hands or around your feet.
  • For beginners, it may be helpful to move only one limb at a time while keeping the other on the floor.
  • Another variation is performing the exercise on a stability ball to increase the difficulty.
