The Crunch With Medicine Ball is a dynamic exercise that strengthens and improves the core muscles. Using a medicine ball adds extra resistance, making it a more intense workout than the traditional crunch.

Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. 2
Hold the medicine ball with both hands in front of your chest.
  3. 3
Engage your abdominal muscles and lift your shoulders and upper back off the floor while bringing the medicine ball toward your knees.
  4. 4
Slowly lower yourself back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the core muscles, contributing to better posture and reduced back pain.
  • Increases the body's stability and balance.
  • Adding the medicine ball makes the exercise more intense, which may lead to faster results.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, causing momentum rather than muscle strength to drive the movement.
  • ! Not fully engaging the abdominal muscles during the exercise.
  • ! Straining the neck by pulling the chin too far toward the chest.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the "six-pack" muscle) and the obliques (side muscles). The deeper core muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • For beginners: Perform the exercise without a medicine ball to get used to the movement.
  • For more of a challenge: Increase the weight of the medicine ball or add a twisting movement to train the obliques more intensely.
