Commando Plank Modification

  • Commando Plank Modification
  • Commando Plank Modification

Introduction: The Commando Plank Modification is a variation of the traditional plank that places additional emphasis on upper-body and core stability. This exercise strengthens not only your abdominal muscles but also your shoulders and arms while you work on your overall body balance.

Execution: Begin in a standard plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels. Engage your abdominal muscles and keep your back straight. Now lift one hand and place it where your elbow was. Do the same with the other hand and come into a push-up position. Then return to the starting position by first bringing one elbow down and then the other. Alternate which arm you move first.

Key Muscles: This exercise targets the rectus abdominis (the "six-pack" muscles), the obliques (the sides of the abdomen), the deltoids (shoulders), the triceps, and the chest muscles.

Benefits: The Commando Plank Modification helps build functional strength, improves core stability, and increases muscular endurance. It is also an excellent exercise for improving coordination and the ability to control your body weight.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is allowing your hips to sag or rise too high. Make sure your body forms a straight line. Also avoid locking your elbows in the push-up position to prevent overloading the joints.

Possible Alternatives: If the Commando Plank Modification is too intense, you can start with a standard plank or a plank on your knees. To increase the intensity, try performing the movement faster or add a leg lift with each switch.
