Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a mat, with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. 2
Place your hands lightly at the sides of your head without pulling on your neck.
  3. 3
Lift your shoulders off the floor in a crunch while simultaneously bringing your right elbow toward your left knee by slightly rotating your torso.
  4. 4
Return to the starting position and repeat the movement with your left elbow and right knee.
  5. 5
Continue alternating for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves coordination between the upper and lower body.
  • Strengthens and defines the abdominal muscles.
  • Helps improve overall stability and balance.
  • May contribute to better posture.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Pulling on the neck: Make sure your hands lightly support your head without putting pressure on your neck.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than speed to ensure maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Not rotating fully: Make sure you really rotate with each crunch to properly work the obliques.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis and obliques. The deeper core muscles are also engaged for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can hold a weight plate or medicine ball while performing the movement.
  • For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by keeping the feet off the floor and performing only the upper-body rotation.
  • As an alternative for those seeking more of a challenge, bicycle crunches can be a good variation to increase both the intensity and engagement of the obliques.
