Side-Lying Leg Lift — Right
The Side-Lying Leg Lift is an effective exercise that targets the muscles of your hips and thighs. This exercise is unique because it improves lower-body stability and strength without requiring heavy weights.
Execution
-
1
Lie on your right side with your legs together and your body in a straight line.
-
2
Support your head with your right hand or place your arm on the floor for balance.
-
3
Place your left hand on the floor in front of you for additional stability.
-
4
Slowly lift your left leg toward the ceiling while keeping your foot in a neutral position.
-
5
Slowly and controllably lower your leg back to the starting position.
-
6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions before switching sides.
Benefits
The Side-Lying Leg Lift helps strengthen and tone the hips and thighs, improves pelvic stability, and may contribute to better posture. It is also an excellent exercise for preventing injuries by strengthening the muscles around the hips.
Common Mistakes
- ! Lifting the leg too high, causing the hips to tilt forward or backward.
- ! Losing tension in your core, which leads to a rounded back.
- ! Performing the movement too quickly, resulting in a loss of control.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the abductors (the outer thighs), the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus (the gluteal muscles), and to a lesser extent the core muscles for stability.
Possible Alternatives
To adjust the intensity of the exercise, you can add ankle weights or place a resistance band around your legs. For beginners, reducing the number of repetitions or performing the exercise without additional resistance can help gradually build strength.
