Gold Standard Whey from Optimum Nutrition review

Geschreven door Nathan Albers
Geschatte leestijd: 2 minutenWith the current offering of protein supplements, it’s not easy to choose a good protein shake. 100% WHEY from Optimum Nutrition is one of the more well-known supplements in the protein supplement market. Optimum Nutrition (ON) has been active in this market since 1986. In this review, we want to delve deeper into the composition, taste, and other properties of Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey.

Composition of 100% Gold Standard

1 scoop equals 24.9 grams, containing 120 kilocalories, of which 10 come from fats. The fat content is 1g, half of which is saturated. Carbohydrates are present in very low form, at 3g, of which 1g is sugar. It also contains 30mg of Cholesterol and 60mg of Sodium. What remains are the proteins, which make up 24g of the scoop. The whey protein is a blend of concentrate, isolate, and whey peptides. Whey isolate means that the percentage of protein in the product is more than 90%, unlike a concentrate, where the protein ranges between 29-89% of the product. An important addition to Gold Standard Whey is the BCAAs. This makes the supplement ideal for post-workout, focusing on recovery after training. It also contains 3500 mg of Glutamine.

Ingredients Gold Standard Whey Protein

Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey contains Optimum Nutrition’s exclusive whey blend, consisting of:
  • Microfiltered Whey Protein Isolates
  • Ion-Exchange Whey Protein Isolates
  • Ultrafiltered Whey Protein Concentrates
  • Hydrowhey, hydrolyzed Whey Peptides

Mixability Gold Standard Whey Protein

And what happens when you prepare the shake? Since it’s a product with whey isolate, as expected, the mixture is light, and we don’t notice any lumps. The shake is free of lumps both in water and in milk, making it pleasant to drink. As for taste (we had banana), the shake is quite sweet, creamy, and slightly chemical, but never overwhelming. There are more than sixteen flavors, so if banana isn’t your thing, Optimum Nutrition offers plenty of choices.
