Steak sandwich with chimichurri sauce

Geschatte leestijd: 2 minuten Sometimes, this is all you need! This steak sandwich has it all. A hearty sandwich with grilled steak, salad, and chimichurri sauce. And if you need proteins, this recipe provides your daily portion. Proteins are important. Especially when you often use your muscles, but also if you want to lose weight, proteins play an important role. Chimichurri is a typical Argentine sauce and marinade made from natural herbs and vegetables. It’s a mix of peppers, garlic, red onion, tomato, red wine vinegar, olive oil, fresh parsley, and more herbs. It adds that extra touch to this sandwich and has a spirited flavor. You can store the remaining sauce in a (preserving) jar for a few days and use it in a dish with chicken, minced meat, or in a salad. For the steak, I use sirloin steak, but any steak is good for the steak sandwich. An easy-peasy delicious, healthy, and filling recipe!

Ingredients for Steak sandwich

  • 150 grams of steak per person
  • ciabatta bread (or other bread of choice)
  • mixed salad

Ingredients for Chimichurri sauce

  • 1 tomato
  • a bunch of parsley
  • 2 handfuls of fresh chives
  • 1 red onion
  • 4 cloves of garlic (pressed)
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • red wine vinegar
  • pepper and sea salt

Preparation of Steak sandwich

  1. Sprinkle the steak with sea salt and let it sit for a while.
  2. We start by preparing the chimichurri sauce.
  3. Cut the onion, pepper, and tomato into very small cubes. Then finely chop the parsley and chives.
  4. Cut with a large chef’s knife (not a serrated knife) or even better, with the food processor. The finer, the better.
  5. Put all the chopped ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  6. Mix everything together well with a splash of vinegar, thyme, and a teaspoon of ground cumin.
  7. Now also mix in the olive oil and pour in just enough until everything is just covered with oil.
  8. Taste to your liking and season with vinegar, pepper, and sea salt if necessary. The sauce is now ready.
  9. Grill or fry the steak to your liking. I opted for medium/rare.
  10. Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board.
  11. Then slice the steak into thin slices.
  12. Cut the ciabatta in half lengthwise and cover the bottom with lettuce and tomato slices.
  13. Then place the steak on top and add the chimichurri on top of that.
  14. Enjoy this delicious steak sandwich
