Homemade protein bars with chocolate

Geschreven door Nathan Albers
Geschatte leestijd: 2 minuten A protein bar is the ideal snack for in between meals that also provides you with a portion of nutrients! These bars are easy to make yourself, cost a lot less than ready-made bars, and are super tasty! In just ten minutes, you can make this healthy protein bar with a whopping 15 grams of protein per bar. I use as many natural ingredients as possible, and you can taste it! You can also leave out the layer of chocolate, but it’s really delicious. Enjoy!

Ingredients Homemade Protein Bars

  • 25g protein powder
  • 35g cashews or walnuts
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao crisps
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter or alternatively; peanut butter powder from Body en Fitshop
  • 50 grams dark chocolate (preferably at least 75% cocoa)
  • 3 tbsp whey crunch (Body en Fitshop)
  • 2 tbsp low-fat quark (60 grams)
  • desiccated coconut

Preparation Homemade Protein Bars

  1. Start by melting the chocolate. Do this au bain marie. Put the chocolate in a deep bowl and place it in a (roomy) pan with a small layer of hot water. The water comes up to about halfway of the bowl, so it cannot reach the chocolate. The chocolate will gradually melt without burning.
  2. Mix the nuts, peanut butter, protein powder in a food processor and then add the quark.
  3. Remove the mixture from the food processor and mix in a large mixing bowl with the whey crispy and the cacao crisps until it forms a firm ball.
  4. Pay attention to the texture of the mixture. It should not be too dry or too sticky. If the ball feels too dry, add one or two teaspoons of water.
  5. On a cutting board or kitchen counter, shape the ball into a firm rectangle with a thickness of 1cm.
  6. Press all sides firmly with the side of a large chef’s knife to make the lines straight.
  7. The chocolate has melted by now. Spoon a layer over the bars.
  8. Sprinkle some desiccated coconut on top.
  9. The protein bars can now be placed in the refrigerator for half an hour and then they’re ready!
Tip! You can store the protein bars in the refrigerator for a few days. You can also freeze them.
