Gerard Butler gained much fame after his role as the ripped King Leonidas in the movie 300. But the originally Scottish actor has played multiple roles in his career.

Butler was born in 1969, on November 13th in Glasgow, Scotland. Here, he studied Law at the University and started his acting career during this time. During this time, Butler mainly played small roles in theaters. For instance, he appeared on stage in the theater version of Trainspotting in his early career.

It wasn’t until much later, in 1997, that Gerard Butler appeared on the silver screen in the movie Archie Brown. Later that year, he starred in the James Bond classic Tomorrow Never Dies alongside Pierce Brosnan. After his role in this box office hit, he didn’t become famous immediately and appeared in many TV series, including The Jury. In 2000, he played a leading role for the first time in the movie Dracula by Wes Craven. After this role, Butler’s career accelerated, and less than 2 years later, he stood opposite Angelina Jolie in the movie Tomb Raider 2.

After his role in 2007 as Leonidas in the movie 300, he was launched and subsequently played in: PS I love you, RocknRolla, and The Ugly Truth.

For the movie 300, Butler had to look completely ripped for his role as King Leonidas. Butler followed the 300 Spartan Workout training schedule, the schedule based on the eponymous film. The 300 Spartan Workout is a circuit training, consisting of a number of fitness exercises performed without rest between exercises.

Madness, this is SPARTA! It’s the most famous scene from the movie 300. But perhaps even more famous are the ripped torsos of the warriors in this film. The movie 300 made an impression with its dark atmosphere, special effects, and heavily trained bodies of the main characters. For this film, the actors had to achieve a dry and ripped physique in a very short time, and they mainly achieved this through the 300 Spartans Workout. The schedule of this workout consisted of the following exercises without rest between sets:

• Pullups – 25 reps
• Barbell Deadlift with 135 lbs. – 50 reps
• Pushups – 50 reps
• 24-inch Box Jumps – 50 reps
• Floor Wipers – 50 reps
• Single-Arm Clean-and-Press with 36 lbs Kettlebell – 50 reps
• Pullups – 25 reps

The 300 Spartans Nutrition Plan

In addition to an intensive training schedule, it was also important for the actors to eat well. Many bodybuilders understand the importance of sufficient protein in their diet. For the movie 300, the actors also had to eat more proteins to promote muscle growth. Many of the proteins can be obtained from foods such as fish, chicken, steak, eggs, and protein shakes. These shakes are a supplement for those who cannot reach their recommended amount of protein daily through their diet.
