In 2000, Jolie was asked to play the lead role in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). Initially, she turned down the role but later decided the required athletic lessons were intriguing for the film. Lara Croft is a character that originated from the eponymous video game. Lara Croft is a female cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond. When the film was released, critics were impressed with the final production. The audience paid $275 million for tickets to see the film in which Jolie portrays the adventurous Lara Croft. In 2004, Jolie began filming Mr & Mrs Smith (2005) with superstar Brad Pitt. The film was a huge success. There were rumors that Pitt and Jolie had an affair during the filming of “Smith”. Jolie insisted she could never participate in an affair with a married man herself because her mother had once been hurt by infidelity. Brad Pitt was then married to Jennifer Aniston and ultimately divorced her in January 2005. Jolie and Pitt announced in early 2006 that they were expecting and Jolie gave birth to daughter Shiloh. She also has a three-year-old Vietnamese boy named Pax.
